Attabad Lake - A Beauty after disaster.
P.C: Usman Zubair
There are many disasters which leave horrific memories and image on the minds of peoples for the rest of there life. The suffering can be bearable but the image of that event can never be forgotten and those are very these disasters occurred will always remind the moments of that disaster no matter how much you develop those areas they always gives a glimpse of those disasters, those moments, those scenes that happened there.
A same disaster has been faced by the residents of Gojal, North of Pakistan on 4th January, 2010 when a massive landslide at Attabad village in the Hunza Valley has blocked the flow of Hunza river for around five months resulting in death of 20 peoples due to landslide and displacing 6000 peoples from there villages due to flood and completely submerging five villages of Gojal village (Ayeenabad, Shiskat, Gulmit, major portions of Hussaini & Gulkin). Thats not all this also affected the 8th wonder of the world the Karakoram Highway according to Dawn News around 25 kilometers of Karakoram Highway and six bridges were destroyed due to this disaster.
The disaster due to blockage of Hunza river has left a 21 Km long and 100 meters deep beautiful lake which is now called Attabad Lake. Although this disaster has created a painful and unforgettable image on the minds of residents of the villages that were now under that lake, for those who have lost there loved ones and those who have lost there beautiful homes but the end image created after this disaster is quite fascinating and attracting.

It gives a boost to tourism in that area. New source of incomes to the residents. A chance for the residents to get back on there feets rapidly which in most disasters is very time taking.
The lake has now become a one of the must visit places for the peoples who came to visit the Hunza Valley or northern areas of Pakistan.
The Lake is very beautiful and it gives a pleasure and relaxation to the viewers. The beauty of the lake and the surroundings creates a spell on you and you don't want to go anywhere else just sit there and enjoy the beauty of nature and weather.

Disaster is over or not ?
Some peoples believe that the Attabad lake will no longer be there as it is not a natural lake so it will disappear with the passage of time but the chances are rare that it will disappear as it is a part of Hunza river now and its water is coming from Hunza river so there is very rare chance that it will disappear.
But the question is will is the disaster over ?
Many researches say that the spill way created to stop the level of Attabad lake from rising is getting wider with the passage of time and we all now that water can cut through rocks with continuous flow of water from them so if the spill way is not properly checked and constructed it will remain a threat for the villages which came in the way if the spill way gets broke down by water.
